The main objective of the project is for the children to learn English and develop their communicative competence, through an immersion programme that begins on their first day of school.

The Magic Dragon project focuses on several points:

  • The content is organized around a common centre of interest.

  • All new knowledge is based on familiar situations, real contents and previous concepts.

  • The students receive comprehensible and meaningful input to develop their oral production.

  • The project combines different types of languages (verbal, audiovisual, technical, artistic and body language) to introduce the children to English; it's sounds, tones, rhythm and cadences. It also covers Basic Competences, the student's ability to put acquired theoretical, practical and attitudinal knowledge in practice.

 WORD CARDS & FLASHCARDS

Each unit suggests words and expressions related to the context and centres of interest. Repetition and frequency enable the children to acquire their own repertoire of the presented vocabulary.

STORIES

Are vital for motivation and to encourage imagination and develop creativity. They expose the children to a large amount of words and structures that are new to them. Stories can be worked with in different ways: as a listening comprehension exercise, to illustrate and explain vocabulary, as a representation or dramatization, etc.

POSTERS

The teachers use the posters as methodological tools and ask the children questions about the represented scene and individual objects. The student’s assimilation, understanding or seek for answers are very important indicators in the learning process. When students see their answer visually they are more motivated to respond and gain confidence.

SONGS, CHANTS, RIDDLES, NURSERY RHYMS, TONGUE TWISTERS...

Allow for a natural repetition of determined structures that favour memorisation and phonetic and lexical patterns.  Since they have rhyming syllables, are repetitive and can be accompanied by gestures the children improve their way of speaking as well as the understanding of each word. They also strengthen memory, increase concentration and encourage body expression.

GAMES

A game is a social activity that emphasises the development of cognitive abilities and communication skills. By using games, the teacher can create learning contexts in which the children can learn new linguistic concepts.

WORKSHEETS

The purpose of a worksheet is for the students to do a small task on paper. By doing so, they gain autonomy and creativity. The worksheet explanation, idea clarification, comments and examples directly stress their linguistic development and broaden vocabulary.
